People of the Founding Era (PFE) began operations in November of 2008, with the intent to explore the feasibility of creating a prosopographical and biographical resource for scholars of the American Founding. Drawing upon the methods of prosopography, the PFE is a highly-structured data set. It is also a collection of biographical information drawn from the founding era editions of the past half century. We have used advanced data-mining techniques to capture the output of the Founding Era editions.
As the initial one-year pilot project draws to a close, PFE has collected over 12,000 people for includsion, and developed tools which will make it possible for continued enrichment. The PFE has been accepted for publication by Rotunda, and anticipates funding for a Phase Two continuation sometime in 2010.
